What's this "John Smith" organ all about then ?
The organ was designed by John Smith of Flitwick Beds. UK.
He sells plans for the organ and if you wish to contact him
you should find a link on the links page which will put you in contact. John owns the copyright and you should not do anything to infringe it.
The organ was designed to be built at home from parts that should be fairly easy to obtain.
The organ has 20 pipes tuned from F2 to D5 (ie. most of the natural notes plus Bb and Eb). The pipes are blown using
a bellows and controlled by cut outs in a paper roll.
Yes I do know it is not a barrel organ but many people refer to it as such. Hence the site name ! For those that don't know, it is usually referred to as a busker or monkey organ. A barrel organ has a pinned cylinder which operates the mechanism to sound the notes.
